Since I was a little girl I alway asked my parents for a dog, but they never agreed. When I went to live on my own first thing I did was take a dog.
The moment I took him into my arms I will never forget, was one of the best day of my life. I’m not exaggerating when I say that he completely changed my life. I became vegetarian, I started to spend time and time in nature, doing long walks, volunteering at shelters, loving more, being more present and learning how unconditional love really meant. Then all my relationships started to change as well, since I was unconsciously comparing them to the one immense love my dog showed me every day, even though I knew it was “just a dog”, and it was very easy to get along.
He got sick a couple of times, and I was always on my own so I had to find strength and courage to help him out even if he was usually the one doing so!! He was the strong male of my little family of two.
Seven years ago everything in my life started to fall down, and he was always next to me. Thank to him even on the most depressing and sad days I had to go out, see nature, stay outside. I was very lonely and he always slept next to me, showing a tennis ball to play, doing funny things, checking upon me and taking care of me like I was his most precious gift.
He started to awaken me, and people around me. Still every time I walk him people stop me to say nice things to us. He’s now ten and he is quite in good health, even though he has a problem at his spleen that has to be taken under control. But time is literally flying by, and I know one day I will have to say goodbye to him or seeing him suffering and leaving his body, and this make me love him even more, even though I think it will be the hardest thing for me to do.
Together we are family. I thank god every day for having sent him to me.
